Waverly Main Street is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to the commercial revitalization of the Greenmount Avenue commercial corridor. Founded in 2000, WMS is an original member of Baltimore Main Streets and is an accredited main street organization with a focus on ensuring the continued success of the Historic Waverly community.
Like most Main Streets, WMS operates with one full time staff, a dedicated board, and a lean annual budget. From 2016-2020, MedStar Union Memorial and Johns Hopkins University, through the Homewood Community Partners Initiative, provided critical operating support during a period of transition for the organization.
With strong financial backing, a new Executive Director was hired to manage and execute priority projects and initiatives, and to develop and leverage strategic partnerships.
Currently, the organization is seeking new funding and revenue sources to continue its work..
WMS follows the traditional Main Street model which includes partnering with the National Trust for Historic Preservation – a model that is implemented nationally and one of the leading models that foster commercial corridor revitalization.
The Main Street Approach™is centered around Transformation Strategies are focused, deliberate pathways to revitalizing or strengthening a commercial district’s economy. They include economic revitalization, promotion, design and organization strategies which we use to guide our work.
