Waverly Main Street (WMS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the commercial revitalization of the Greenmount Avenue corridor. Established in 2000, WMS is one of the founding members of Baltimore Main Streets and is a fully accredited Main Street program. Our mission is to strengthen and sustain the Historic Waverly community by fostering economic growth, supporting local businesses, and preserving neighborhood character.
In addition to its revitalization work, WMS serves as a hub for community life. The organization proudly hosts the Baltimore Book Festival, the annual Waverly Tree Lighting, and a variety of activities and events throughout the year that bring neighbors together and attract visitors to the district.
Like many Main Street programs, WMS operates with a single full-time staff member, a dedicated volunteer board, and a lean annual budget. Despite these constraints, the organization has delivered meaningful impact for more than two decades.
Currently, WMS is actively seeking new funding opportunities and diversified revenue streams to sustain and expand this vital work.

WMS follows the traditional Main Street model which includes partnering with the National Trust for Historic Preservation – a model that is implemented nationally and one of the leading models that foster commercial corridor revitalization.
The Main Street Approach™is centered around Transformation Strategies are focused, deliberate pathways to revitalizing or strengthening a commercial district’s economy. They include economic revitalization, promotion, design and organization strategies which we use to guide our work.
