A Village Center with a Rich History

Waverly Main Street Historic District is a northeast Baltimore neighborhood commercial district of 141 primarily small-scale commercial buildings dating back to the 19th century.  The district evolved around a significant transportation corridor along the York Turnpike. It’s approximately  31 acres contained in the 6 blocks of Greenmount Avenue running from 29th Street to 35th, and a few blocks on the east and west.

Today the district enjoys nearby access to a modern YMCA and recreational complex, a newly renovated library branch, a year-round farmers market and major commuting routes.

Less than a mile from Johns Hopkins University and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, Waverly is also easily accessed from Morgan State University and Loyola University.

Waverly is also currently a designated Enterprise Zone.

A New Wave(rly)

A multi-year, multi-million infrastructure and streetscape project is the biggest news in the district.  Set to finish in 2021, a newly reconstructed, beautified and landscaped corridor will provide a long awaited facelift.

Two significant historical structures, the Town Hall building and the Boulevard Theatre, are set for refresh and redevelopment in the near future.

In recent years Giant Food and Ace Hardware have helped anchor the district.  Other new enterprises representing significant investment include:

  • Vehicles for Change
  • Peabody Heights Brewery
  • Local Color Flowers
  • Khepera’s Kitchen
  • Village Kebab
